OCT. 27, 2008 • Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime that total Wii production had risen from 1.6 million per month last year to 2.4 million per month in 2008. The increase allows the U.S. branch to increase its holiday shipments of Wiis by 50 percent compared to 2007.
Impact: If you do the math, 2.4 million units a month would come out to an annual total of nearly 29 million units. This is significantly more than a console system has ever shipped in the past. On a traditional basis, 1.6 million units would have just barely satisfied demand for a hit console system. The Wii is clearly looking to break new ground in its popularity.
