NOV. 9, 2011 • Adobe Systems said it will no longer develop new versions of its Flash Player in the future for mobile browsers in favor of HTML5. The switch to HTML5 was made to devote more resources to further advanced gaming and premium video on mobile platforms.
Impact: This is a change with major consequences for mobile developers. Most have looked at HTML5 from the perspective of how do they take what they do in Flash to replicate the process. But HTML5 is a different animal that will force game designers to start over in many cases to code specifically for the new platform. The good news is that Apple platforms will be automatically supported.
