AUG. 11, 2009 • At the Pacific Crest Technology Leadership Forum in Vail, Colorado, Electronic Arts chief financial officer Eric Brown said the publisher was only looking at small-scale acquisitions in the future: “We’re just not interested in a large-scale, traditional packaged-good publishing deal.”
Impact: Finally, Electronic Arts seems to have its feet headed toward the future. DFC thought large-scale packaged good acquisitions would have gone out of favor two or three years ago. However, through a good portion of 2008, EA was looking to buy Take-Two Interactive for over $2 billion. Today Take-Two’s market value is under a billion dollars. EA is a leader in the packaged goods business and where they really to need to focus efforts on is becoming more competitive in online and emerging markets.
