Sony Plans Download Service
NOV. 20, 2009 • Sometime during 2010, Sony Corp. is set on launching a new download service specifically for its consumer electronics products. Games, movies and other entertainment will be available to new Bravia TVs, Reader electronic books, and Cyber-Shot digital cameras to start. The yet-to-be-named service will leverage the existing PlayStation Network architecture.
Impact: In 2010, DFC Intelligence will be launching its emerging distribution market segmentation model. This model looks at the impact that new smart hardware devices will have on the market for games and other digital forms of entertainment. Suffice to say, the way the industry defines hardware platforms is likely to undergo a major change over the next few years.
