SCEA Tries PSP Go Promo
JUNE 2, 2010 • Concerned about the rate of adoption of its $250 PSP Go handheld, Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) will give new owners three free games for PSP Gos purchased until March 31, 2011. The titles are: LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3.
Impact: Overall, the PSP business has been tough for Sony. It has been even more difficult for the PSP Go which launched in late 2009 as a device designed solely for digital downloads. Specifically, in terms of the PSP Go, the value proposition of the system has been hard to explain to consumers. The Go costs more than a regular PSP, but lacks the ability to play physical UMD games. So in many consumers minds it can seem that when buying the Go they are paying more for less. The fact that Sony is offering a triple software bundle is a sign that they are still committed to the Go. Furthermore, these are not just any three titles. Each one of these is a major release in a premier Sony brand.
