Home Entertainment Budget: $150
APRIL 16, 2009 • Based on a tracking study of 10,000 consumers, the NPD Group found that Americans, on average, budget $150 a month for entertainment, much of it spent on subscription-based services, many of them online. In addition, 51% of those who responded said in the past three months they purchased a DVD or Blu-ray disc, 36% bought a video game, and 31% brought home a music CD.
Impact: DFC has always been a big believer in subscription-based services as a way to drive revenue, especially in an online world. However, that being said, the numbers for those buying physical media are quite high. Surprisingly almost as many people purchased a music CD as a video game.
