Future Shop Goes Used Games
JUNE 17, 2008 • Best Buy Canada is bringing used game sales to its Future Shop locations in Canada. Starting with its six Calgary store, the chain expects to roll out second-hand game offerings to all 133 locations in the country.
Impact: Despite resistance from game publishers, it seems inevitable that all major retailers will get into the previously-owned business. GameStop has proven how well selling used titles can add to the bottom line. Especially when the economy teeters on recession, buying used games gives consumers another way to maximize their entertainment dollars, at least until gamemakers feel forced to add DRM to lock discs to one system. A patent Sony has already filed.
