Flash Coming to CE Devices
APRIL 20, 2009 • Adobe Systems is bringing its Flash platform to consumer electronics devices such as Blu-ray players, televisions and set-top boxes. The move will make it much easier to play the large number of Flash-based games available, plus other existing Web content on Internet-capable TVs.
Impact: The television is rapidly becoming an Internet connected device and that includes the ability to download and directly execute applications from the Web. As this occurs, the implications for the existing game industry are complex to say the least. For a company like Adobe, the opportunity is to essentially become a content platform provider without the need to invest in an expensive hardware system.
