Epic Sets Up in Seoul
JUNE 29, 2009 • Epic Games opened a wholly-owned business unit in Seoul, South Korean. The new office will be tasked with licensing Unreal engine technology and supporting Korean development teams utilizing Epic technology.
Impact: Epic’s arrival in Seoul is confirmation of the strength of the Korean development community, and the need to support that community more fully. This mission is in contrast to Epic’s Shanghai operation which was set up more as a conduit for outsourcing development work. Since the Koreans have less reluctance to work with middleware solutions than Japanese developers, and Korean games are often emulated elsewhere, Epic’s further advance into Asia is a wise move.
