China Tracks Mobile Users
SEPT. 1, 2010 • Going into effect immediately, everyone who buys a new mobile phone number in China will be required to provide personal information to the vendor. The new requirement is similar to regulations elsewhere in Asia like South Korea, and is intended to greatly reduce digital anonymity.
Impact: With the explosion of smartphone and wireless tablet adoption in China, it is likely that these platforms will play host to a growing supply of mobile games. We have no doubt that the Chinese government will end up using this new regulation to monitor minors and how many hours they play games.
