MAY 25, 2010 • Best known for its PlayStation exclusive franchises Ratchet & Clank and Resistance: Fall of Man, Insomniac Games has signed with EA Partners for its next franchise. The deal is a first for the studio, which hasn’t produced a multi-platform title during the last 16 years.

Impact: Insomniac Games was a major source of exclusive content for the PlayStation products since the mid-1990s.  The fact that Insomniac Games is going to non-Sony platforms is a clear indication that the days of platform exclusives are rapidly coming to an end.  For Sony it puts more pressure on its internal Worldwide Studios to develop the products that can make platforms like the PlayStation 3 and PSP distinct.
