A new brief from DFC Intelligence notes that the 2.1 million units sold in its first two weeks makes the Sony PlayStation 4 the biggest launch ever for a console game system. In a series of reports over the past few months, DFC Intelligence forecasts PlayStation 4 would be the number one console game system of this new generation. The successful launch of the PS4 is an indication that Sony is already establishing an early leadership position.
“The most successful console systems of all time in terms of total hardware unit sales were the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo Wii, says DFC analyst David Cole. “The PS2 and Wii also had the record for largest initial launch sales but the PlayStation 4 surpassed both those systems.”
