PlayStation 4 Japan Launch Date Set

SEPT. 9, 2013 • The PlayStation 4 Japan launch date is now set for February 22nd. When Sony Computer Ent. announced North America would receive the new console on November 15 and November 29 in Europe, no mention was made on when the home market in Japan would receive shipments. SEPT. 5, 2013 • At the end of July Facebook announced that it was jumping further into the business of mobile games with a pilot program pragmatically titled Facebook Mobile Games Publishing. Despite the wording, Facebook won’t actually be funding titles or actively participating in their development. Mobile Games Publishing is more accurately described as a program to further access to new mobile promotional channels that the social network has been ready.....

Microsoft Grabs Nokia Hardware Biz

SEPT. 3, 2013 • With its 2011 partnership deal coming up for recommitment next year, Microsoft Corp. is paying €5.44 billion ($7.2 billion) to purchase Nokia Corp.’s phone business outright. The transaction amount is about one-quarter of Nokia’s 2012 sales. Of the total, €3.79 billion is devoted to purchasing Nokia’s devices business and 8,500 key patents, with €1.65 bill.....

Nintendo 2DS Announced at $129

AUG. 28, 2013 • The Nintendo 3DS is getting a less expensive younger sibling on Oct. 12 called the Nintendo 2DS. Arriving in North America at $129.99, the unit is $40 less than the cheapest 3DS SKU in the market. The 2DS will also launch in Europe during October, but pricing there has yet to be announced. Disney Interactive Closes 3 MMO Games

AUG. 23, 2013 • Soon after this week’s introduction of Disney Infinity that marries an online game with a companion line of physical synchronized toys, Disney Interactive announced it was shutting down three of its core MMOs.
