Destiny Franchise Has $500 Million Price Tag
MAY 6, 2014 • Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick told financial executives at this week’s Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles last week that with the $500 million bet his company was making on Bungie Inc.’s Destiny franchise could only be made on owned IP. China Online Games Reach $13.1 Billion
MAY 1, 2014 • China’s Ministry of Culture released its annual report noting that the domestic China online games industry generated 81.9 billion yuan ($13.1 billion) in revenue during 2013, an increase of 36.3% over 2012. Giant Interactive Group Inc., Kingsoft, Netease, Perfect World Ent. Inc., SNDA, Sohu Changyou.com, and Tencent Holdings Ltd. accounted for 54.4 billion yuan ($8.7 billion) of the total. Lost E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Game Cartridges Found
APRIL 28, 2014 • For decades there has been speculation about the thousands of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial game cartridges that Atari, Inc. supposedly buried in the desert back in 1983. Now they have been found. Thanks to a partnership between Xbox Entertainment Studios, Fuel Ent., and the multiplatform media company Lightbox, a dig was sponsored at a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico to search for the discarded games for a documentary called: Atari: Game Over. .....
Nintendo Taiwan Office is Closed
APRIL 22, 2014 • After 23 years in operation Nintendo is closing down its Taiwan branch on May 31. Most employees of Nintendo Taiwan (Nintendo Phuten Co., Ltd.) in Taipei will exit the office by the end of April, however. Responsibility for the Taiwan market will be assumed by Nintendo’s Hong Kong branch.
