Kindle Sales Top 1 Million A Week

DEC. 15, 2011 • In the weeks leading into Christmas, Amazon.com announced that it was selling more than 1 million Kindle devices a week worldwide. The online retailer would not say how many of those units sold were the new Fire model. Amazon had never previously announced any sales numbers for its e-reader devices. DarkOrbit Whales Spend €1,000

NOV. 25, 2011 • Bigpoint GmbH hit it big with a virtual sale of a rare item in its DarkOrbit space action game. Plans to build the Zeus Drone, a very powerful weapons system, were put on sale for four days at a price of €1,000 ($1,335). More than 2,000 of the item were sold during those four days, generating more than €2 million. Apple Allows iPad Streaming

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Blamed for Football Loss

NOV. 17, 2011 • University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong explained his team’s home loss to Pittsburgh the previous weekend on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: “All of a sudden there’s something new and they want to try it and it just engulfs them.” According to Microsoft, more than 7 million multiplayer hours were logged playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by the end of launch day, November 8, a 19% increase over last year.....

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Ships 7 Million

NOV. 16, 2011 • According to ZeniMax Media Inc., 7 million units of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim were shipped to retailers for the game’s launch. The publisher did not break down how many of those copies were distributed between PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 systems. ZeniMax says more than 50% of the units shipped were sold during the first 48 hours after the title was released on Nov. 11, and more than 280,000 concurrent users were playing. .....
