AUG. 26, 2008 • The Wii becomes the first current-generation console to pass the 1 million-sold mark in Canada, according to NPD Funworld data. Coming in second was the Xbox 360 at 870,000, and the PS3 selling 520,000. Five of the Top 10 selling titles in Canada during May were Wii games, and three more were DS titles.
Impact: Selling 1 million units in Canada is basically the equivalent milestone of selling 10 million units in the U.S. The Xbox 360 was the first system to pass the 10 million mark in the U.S. earlier this year. The fact that it has lagged slightly in Canada, is indicative of the more serious problem the Xbox 360 faces on a more global basis. The U.S. performance of the Xbox 360 has not necessarily carried over on a worldwide basis.
