JUNE 3, 2008 • After one week in release, Funcom’s Age of Conan MMO jumped to No. 1 on PC games sales charts in Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Italy and Australia. Funcom has shipped more than 1 million units of the game in three weeks.
Impact: We have been watching the anticipated release of Age of Conan for several years. There are only a handful of high-end subscription based MMOs that have the potential to be major success stories. Generally it is easy to spot which ones have that potential years in advance. However, even among high-end projects, most fail to live up to the hype. Age of Conan is one of the exceptions and it shows that, despite the contrarians, this market is more than just World of Warcraft.
