SEPT. 4, 2007 • London-based SCi Entertainment, the parent of Eidos, announces that it is in discussions with a possible take-over suitor. The public announcement was required under British law. Speculation was the interested buyer might be Warner Bros. Entertainment, since the studio acquired 10% of SCi’s shares late last year, and licensed Eidos the rights to make games based on its cartoon properties.
Impact: Eidos has been a long struggling company that merged with the smaller SCi Entertainment in 2005. The company is best known for the once popular Tomb Raider franchise. Warner Bros. has made many unsuccessful investments in the game industry and has made no secret it wants to try and invest once again.
