FEB. 6, 2008 • Adding new meaning to the holiday bundle package concept, Microsoft Entertainment, released a Chinese New Year edition of the Xbox 360 Pro in the Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore markets. The package included Halo 3, two wireless controllers and a one-month Gold subscription to Xbox Live for 3,199 HKD, 13,680 TWD and 669 SGD – around $445 U.S. The official bundle was released last Christmas and included Viva Pinata and Forza Motorsport 2.
Impact: DFC has constantly applauded Microsoft’s efforts to promote the Xbox 360 in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, India and other regions that have a limited history with a console business. Of course the Xbox 360 has enjoyed its greatest success in the very traditional markets of the U.S. and U.K. and Microsoft faces an uphill battle in the rest of the world. But the fact that Microsoft is still trying gives us confidence that the company is in this for the long haul.
