JULY 28, 2011 • GameStop, which has fully integrated the Impulse digital distribution service into its online site, has launched an in-store order and payment option for digitally delivered content. In addition to standard credit card purchases, GameStop will also accept used game trade-in vouchers and gift cards for in-store digital ordering.
Impact: This marriage of used game turn-ins and digital sales bears watching. With an excellent range of price points from low (DLC) to high (full game purchases), this option gives GameStop a marvelous tool to immediately snare store credits before they can walk out the store. Since the retailer is keen on showing publishers that it can be a good DLC-selling partner, turning smaller credit amounts into quick DLC sales would go a long way in proving that argument.
