FEB. 3, 2009 • Nintendo Co. Ltd. told The Korea Herald that it has sold 2 million DS units in South Korea since the handheld went on sale there in January 2007. The second million units were tallied during 2008.
Impact: The DS continues to break records in all major markets. Prior to the launch of the DS, the most successful dedicated game system in South Korea was the PlayStation 2. However, it took the PS2 nearly three years to reach the one million unit market and after seven years the system has sold only about 1.5 million units.
